Description
The Verum Standard Angle Block Plane is the craftsman’s choice for single-handed trimming, chamfers, and tackling timbers where tear-out is a challenge. With a 20° bedding angle and 30° sharpened blade, it produces a York Pitch of 50°, renowned for delivering smooth, tear-free surfaces on most woods. Its weight, balance, and short sole make it agile and easy to handle, whether you’re flushing joints, refining chamfers, or making delicate finishing cuts.
Additional blades expand its versatility: sharpen to 40° for a Cabinet Pitch of 60°, ideal for interlocked or reversing grain, or to 50° for a 70° effective angle that behaves almost like a scraper plane for the most demanding timbers.
Designed with Peter Sefton
Each Verum plane is developed in collaboration with Wood Workers Workshop’s owner, Peter Sefton — a master craftsman and woodworking educator. His experience has shaped everything from the pitch options to the ergonomic bronze cap, creating a block plane that feels natural in the hand and delivers reliable results on all types of timber.
Ergonomics & Comfort
Bronze Cap with Dimples
The polished bronze cap and side dimples provide secure thumb and finger placement, making the plane nestle naturally into the palm.
Compact & Agile
At 850g with a short sole, the plane balances comfortably in one hand, reducing fatigue while offering precise control on detail work.
Blade Control & Adjustment
Pitch Versatility
Sharpening at 30° gives 50° York Pitch; optional blades sharpened to 40° or 50° achieve 60° and 70° effective angles for wild or interlocked grain.
Adjustable Mouth
Fine-tune the mouth opening for delicate finishing shavings or open wider for heavier cuts without tear-out.
